Criteria and Guidelines for IFSW Representatives

Introduction

Representing IFSW can be a very rewarding and demanding volunteer opportunity. As a non-governmental organisation (NGO) representative, it is necessary to have some flexibility of time in order to carry out the responsibilities of the position and to pursue the tasks involved in a consistent manner.

Qualifications

1. Background of experience and education in the field of social work.
2. Member of the national organisation of social workers.
3. Identification with and commitment to the principles, purposes and policy statements of IFSW
4. Demonstrated international perspective and interests.
5. Availability of time to pursue endeavours consistently.

Responsibilities of the Representative

1. Attend as far as possible necessary meetings of the IFSW representatives if part of a group of IFSW representatives, and work co-operatively within the team, commission or committee.
2. Attend necessary meetings with other NGOs in a representative position.
3. Attend necessary meetings of the international organisation the representative is accredited to, including special events, conferences and consultations.
4. Submit periodic typed reports in preparation for the IFSW meetings and publications with recommendations of issues to be pursued by the member organisations or representative bodies of IFSW.
5. Maintain awareness for opportunities to make the presence, the commitment and the programmes of IFSW known through formal statements, and the participation of its representatives.
6. Attend at and report to IFSW global or regional meetings as far as possible.

Responsibilities of IFSW

1. Selecting representatives based on the criteria and guidelines for IFSW representatives,
2. Cooperating and communicating with the members organisation of the representative when selecting representatives.
3. Keeping representatives informed of IFSW policies and programmes by making documents and publications available.
