LAUNCH OF THE SOCIAL CARE CODE OF PRACTICE FOR INTERNATIONAL RECRUITMENT ON 20 October 2006
Ivan Lewis, Minister at the Department of Health to launch the Social Care Code of Practice for International Recruitment at the national social care conference in Brighton on 20 October 2006.
Social care is a dynamically changing working environment and despite a steady increase in the size of the workforce, which now numbers approximately one million, demand continues to exceed supply.
This Code sets out the principles of good practice in international recruitment and signposts sources of information and guidance to support local authorities as employers and commissioners to recruit ethically and effectively.
It is an excellent example of partnership working across the social care sector with stakeholder organisations, agencies and employers contributing to its development of the principles and guidance.
A steer for the work came from the Options for Excellence review of the social care workforce and has been led by the Improvement and Development Agency and Department of Health with full endorsement from the Department for Education and Skills.
Full details of the Code can be found at the new website www.sccir.org.uk/index.asp
