UN will appoint Special Representative on Violence Against Children |
 |
The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution to appoint for a period of three years a Special Representative on violence against children, at the highest possible level, after which the mandate should be evaluated.
The Special Representative will work with UNICEF, the Human Rights Commissioner, WHO and ILO, and will especially focus on being a high-profile global advocate to promote the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children in all regions, promote and support the implementation of the recommendations of the United Nations study on violence against children, identify and share good practices, work closely with the Committee on the Rights of the Child and with civil society.
The appointment is based on the UN Study on Violence Against Children. The International Federation of Social Workers has been actively involved in the NGO Advisory Panel for the Study through its Geneva Representative Ellen Mouravieff-Apostol.
