UN adopts protocol to uphold human rights to food and housing |

The Human Rights Committee of the Un General Assembly has adopted on November 18 an Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights giving people rights to housing, food, water and sanitation as well as holding governments responsible for the lack of these these essential rights.
On December 10, the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the optional protocol is likely to go for a final vote by the General Assembly.
