Ex-child soldiers launch UN network to help children

A new planned U.N.-backed advocacy group aims to help child soldiers to escape and heal from war. The group will be launched by three former child soldiers from Africa. This three survivors all living in the United States of America aim to create a global network of young people like themselves wanting to get rehabilitated with the help of education. Ishmael Beah will lead the new U. N.-backed "knowledge-based advocacy group". The United Nations estimates the number of child soldiers to be about 250000.

Radhika Coomaraswamy, the top U.N. envoy on children and armed conflict, said the group and their stories could serve as examples of "the power of resilience."
