Bollywood actress Kajol is to receive a prestigious Indian award in recognition of her work promoting social justice and social work.
The Karamveer Puraskar award is presented by the iCongo coalition of NGOs to people who have shown committment to social work outside their usual area of business and have been pivotal in leading change.
"I believe that social commitment is as important as our professional and personal commitment," said Kajol, who is a supporter of various organisations, including British-based charity the Loomba Trust which campaigns for the rights of widows, and the Indian Shiksha education trust.
"It is indeed an honour to have been selected for this award. I will keep doing my bit and giving back to society the best in my capacity," said Kajol.
The award will be presented in New Delhi on 26 November.
